About the Event

What is CWGC? The Commonwealth War Grave Commission (CWGC) principal function is to mark, record and maintain graves and places of commemoration for Commonwealth Military service members who died fighting in the two World Wars.

This presentation by Mike Dawson, (Trust Speaker for CWGC) provides an overview of their organisation from past to present with reference to the sites and casualties they care for. It will begin by discussing the conception of the CWGC by the founder and the principles put into place at that time that continues to define the CWGC do and how they do it. To illustrates this, you will be shown the sites they care for in the UK and around the world and what to look for when visiting them. A discussion of the challenges they face and the work the CWGC do today will then follow, before the presentation is rounded off with a personal story based with sites around Guildford and the service members lives.
